Crawling

I have re-written this first sentence what feels like fifty times. As a result, I have finally given up on writing something coherent and valuable, and have decided just to write. Sometimes, when we have commitments that we want to stick with, we need to stick with them even when we know it's not the best.

In my book, and likely this blog, I have spoken about Jerry Seinfeld and what has become known as The Seinfeld Strategy. Earlier in his career, when he wanted to become funnier, he decided to make a commitment to write one joke a day. I am sure there were many days when he wrote more than one joke, but setting the bar that low helped him stick with it when he wanted to quit.

When we think about people persevering and accomplishing things, we usually picture someone sprinting and pushing through the pain with all they've got; we don't picture them crawling. The truth is though, both things get us closer to the finish line. We don't need to always be sprinting to get to where we want to be, we just need to be moving. If you ever need to crawl to keep yourself from giving up, do it.

Today, I am crawling. Today, this is me doing my best and I'm okay with that. Never be hard on yourself for not sprinting, instead celebrate that you are still inching forward.
